Bred here at Zayenah, Cue is our wonderfully cheeky girl whose playful nature and sweet purrsonality keep us constantly entertained.
Unlike the typical spotted pattern of the Ocicat, Cue displays the recessive classic pattern. This pattern originates from the American Shorthair used in the breed’s early development, and the gene can be quietly carried for many generations—eight generations on her dam’s side and four on her sire’s. Because there is currently no genetic test for pattern, breeders rely on pedigree study and experience; the classic pattern only appears when both parents carry the recessive gene.
While Cue is fully registered as an Ocicat and can contribute to breeding programs, classic-patterned Ocicats are not eligible to compete in Australian cat shows. However, they are valued within the breed for their role in producing larger, clearer spotting in their offspring. Cue’s carefully selected suitors are not expected to carry the classic gene, so her kittens will very likely all be beautifully spotted.
